Embracing Uncertainties
This week we’re continuing our series “Chase the Lion” based on the book “In a Pit…” by Mark Batterson. When it comes to the story of Benaiah in II Samuel 23, one thing we know for sure: his encounter with the lion wasn’t planned. He didn’t have a message pop up in Google Calendar to go chase a lion. These were certainly not planned out events. We often fail to appreciate the element of surprise. It’s easy for us to take for granted knowing the outcome. But, for Benaiah when he was looking the lion square in the eyes, the conclusion was unknown.
When you and I go through times of uncertainty, it’s difficult for us to lean into it. So often we look at our faith and think that true faith is the absence of uncertainty. In actuality, to be a people of faith means that circumstantial uncertainty actually increases. God will often call us to go to places and do things that require complete trust in Him. And in these times, more faith results in more uncertainty.
Faith isn’t about REDUCING uncertainty
it’s about EMBRACING it.
We need to stop wasting our time worrying about the future and stop being afraid of what we cannot see and do not know.
