Overcoming Adversity
Speaker: Adam Davis

(listen online here)

James 1.2-4 NLT
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Numbers 13.30 NLT
But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”

Philippians 1.29 NLT
For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him.

Overcoming Adversity is an opportunity

to GROW in faith and SHOW God’s glory.

What is the biggest hardship you are currently facing? How does James1.2-4 reframe that hardship for you?

How does God use our adversity to expand our capacity to serve Him?

God often recycles our pain. Is there an opportunity before you now to use past pain to help someone else?

Next Steps:

  • Ready to stop focusing on what’s wrong with you and start focusing on what’s right about God? Spend 30 minutes in focused worship this week.
  • Need to be reminded of what it means to have the courage of a Lion Chaser? Each day this week read the Lion Chaser Manifesto bookmark.
  • Coordinate your summer reading with our summer series. Pick up a copy of “In a Pit with a Lion” by Mark Batterson at the Welcome Center, today.

For spiritual growth, read the verses and answer the questions above.
