Everyday Pentecost Study- Day 1

24 May 2010 186 views One Comment

The disciples had been taught by Jesus over a period of three years, had witnessed the risen Christ in all His glory and power over a period of 40 days, and had spent time with Him. At the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was given to empower them to spread the message of Christ to the rest of the world. The same power is available to all of us today.

The disciples had been instructed to wait 10 days until Pentecost to receive the Promise. This 10-day study is designed to walk you through the Scriptures, helping you intentionally focus on pursuing the power of Pentecost in your life.

Take time each day to read and reflect on each of the verses and answer the questions that follow. Here is your study for Day 1:

Acts 1.4-5
Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
What was the promise of the Father they were to receive on Pentecost?

John 14.16-17
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

Matthew 10.20
For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Galatians 4.6
And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

What other names are given to the Holy Spirit?
