Creation reveals the Creator
This past weekend, Ryan Throop, our community pastor, opened our “Story” series by exploring the Creation poem found in the first book of the Bible, Genesis.
Through his talk, we learned that every aspect of Creation reveals an aspect of God and his character:
God is Trinitarian
Genesis speaks of creator, it speaks of the entire trinity (Father, Genesis 1.1; Spirit, Genesis 1.2; Son, Genesis 1.3). All three persons of the trinity that make up the one true God were present at Creation.
God is Transcendent
The narrative of the Bible begins with “In the beginning God…” God didn’t come from anywhere or anything. Unlike us, God isn’t confined by the same time-space dimension; He always has been and always will be.
God is Holy
Seven times in Genesis 1, the writer tells us God looked at all He created and said, “it was very good.” Creation originally reflected God’s purity.
God is Love
Unlike all the other mythological stories that tried to explain the brutality of the world, the Genesis account came out of love and joy, not out of conflict. And it tells about a God of love who has a plan for you and I, created the world out of nothing, and said it was good.
God is Personal
Genesis 1.27 tells us that God created man in His image. Therefore, we all bear the image and likeness of our Creator. We also read about Adam and Eve (the first man and woman) walking and talking with God daily.
Finally, in Psalm 19 King David shares these thoughts on Creation:
The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
2 Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
3 They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.[a]
4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
