Lead where you are
If you feel that leadership is a part of your future, but don’t have much opportunity to exercise leadership or don’t have the positional authority you think you might have some day, I have some advice for you.
Lead where you are.
If you can’t or won’t lead now, then a position isn’t going to change that.
If you can not influence others who don’t HAVE to listen to you, then your effectiveness as a positional leader will wain before long.
More opportunities aren’t going to make you a commanding leader.
Leading where you are will be what gets you noticed and brings the positional authority.
Leading where you are creates opportunities for people to recognize your potential.
Leading where you are teaches you how to influence, motivate, and equip others apart from being able to rely on “because I’m the boss – that’s why”.
So if you’re in process but have dreams of leading others one day – don’t wait for one day – add value to others NOW, contribute to your organization NOW by leading where you are.
