A Spiritual Practices Guide for Lent 2010

The season of Lent has been a tradition in the Christian Church, dating back to AD 360. This is a 40-day period of fasting and meditation, between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday, and is designed to help us understand the life and death of Christ and celebrate His resurrection. This year’s theme is the life of Jesus.

We invite you to experience the life of Jesus this lent season in the following ways:

  • Read through the book of Mark using the daily reading plan (see reading plan below).
  • Fast something. Fasting is simply the act of separating yourself from one thing to move closer to God.
  • Spend time in prayer & stillness. Commit a few moments each day, reflecting on the day’s Scripture.

The way of Jesus has for centuries been understood as a life that requires deliberate and attentive spiritual practices. Spiritual practices are ways to be deliberate about matters of the soul. As a community, let’s join together in preparation for the climatic event in all of human history- the Resurrection of Jesus.
