But I see how when I do assume, God proves me wrong. "I can do all thing threw Christ which makes me stronger," can not remember the verse, but it ties in great. I can pray real hard meaningful prayers and expect God to move in a situation or circumstance. The problem can be where I am assuming God is going to work in a way that I want Him to fix my situation. The bible clearly says in Isaiah 55 and Ephesians 3 that my thoughts are not His thoughts or He does things above my thinking. If I am assuming I may miss what God really wants for me. I am still learning how to be very open to the way God works and answers prayers. If you asked me 2 years ago if I thought I was to plant a church in Monroe Michigan, I would say probably not, but God knew and here I am today helping plant a church in Monroe Michigan! I grew up in a traditional church where a “holier than thou” type of attitude toward those outside the church was a regular part of the church. Following God became a list of “do’s and don’ts” to put into my life. I grew up feeling completely inadequate due to failure after failure of living up to a set of standards and rules that I couldn’t reach. Bottom line... I had an incomplete picture of who God was. My assumptions of who God was were way off in my life, which trickled down and effected every other aspect of my life. The good news is that I was able to break the cycle of assumptions in my life and through a lot of reflection and time discovering who God really was, I have a much more wholistic view of who God is... and it's freeing! It comes down to taking your next step with God. Be willing to lay aside your assumptions and discover the real Jesus, not Jesus-in-a-box religion. I can say, with much bias, that Elevate Church is a great place to take the next step in discovering who God is, assumption-free.
