TC so GR
Last night’s Big Picture meeting for Elevate was off the hook.
We’re very early in the process of planting this church & already asking ourselves “what’s working & what’s not”. We had 2 events planned for the month of June but last night decided they weren’t working so we shot them dead right there in the meeting room at Panera. It was clear these events no longer served the vision – and God rest their souls – we put them out of our misery and didn’t even have a funeral.
The best part is that my core team didn’t even flinch, not even the people that organize those events. They didn’t try to hold on to something that wasn’t working because it was “their” gig or out of some sentimental notion, but everyone was ready to do whatever it takes to be effective in reaching people with the love of God.
I’m so proud of our team – it’s so much easier to get comfortable with what you’re doing and find ways to justify continuing to do it way past it’s effectiveness. For a minute last night it was a bit overwhelming as we looked at new options that better serve our vision. It was tense because it required us to confront our own ways of thinking and then change.
I was talking to a pastor friend of mine today, and we mentioned those times when you really appreciate the people God brings around you – last night was one of those times for me.
I’ll leave you with the same parting thought I gave the Elevate core team last night:
