Spiritual lessons from the new Fall Line-up

Have you noticed all the new TV shows about ordinary people with extraordinary abilities? Shows like Heroes, the 4400 , and Supernatural are a few that I have seen advertised recently. It strikes me that at a time when the followers of Christ are rediscovering their mandate to be a glorious community, TV programs and movies like these are so vastly popular. I am amazed that those who do not necessarily surrender to God’s rule pick up on what His Spirit is doing in the earth today (often quicker than the established church).
In the first part of Luke 10, we see a company of regular guys who do highly irregular deeds. When they come to report to Jesus, all were blown away at the awesome things that were done. Scripture is laced with such instances as an example for future generations to model within their culture.
Within our culture and generation we have the opportunity to be part of a company of ordinary people that are demonstrating the supernatural ability of God to heal, to deliver, to liberate, and to love without boundries and limits. Not on a crusade platform, but in the malls and grocery stores of our suburbs. Not on television but in the neighborhoods of our towns. Not where an offering will be taken up, but on the streets of our cities. And not by a few celebrities but by the anonymous masses of everyday believers. The world is ready for such a community of people and if we don’t give them the real, they will settle for the counterfiet.

After thought: I am not endorsing these TV programs as godly and would even say that viewer discretion is advised. However, I do recognize that the underlying theme is a kingdom one, and as a follower of Christ I reclaim the truth found therein. It is up to each of us to “sanctify” that theme and incorporate it in our lives.
